I received this as an email today and thought it an odd disconnect. Not only would I NOT think to buy electronics from Geoffrey and Toys R Us, but the ad is hokey and a little creepy. When you click on the link, the music is good, but totally unrelated to the Toys R Us demoraphic, and I have to wonder how many kids in this age range are thinking to themselves "hmmm...Zune vs. iPod???, I know, I'll check out Toys R Us for their opinion."
A month and a half ago, I spent a good amount of time in Toys R Us, given that I have a three-year-old, so the fact that they were advertising Zune wasn't such a big surprise. My disconnect was the price. Now only a ton of money! Was a ton plus twenty bucks! I know next to nothing about the Zune (other than it's Microsoft's answer to Ipod), but that model must be targeting the high-end Ipods. Are they just letting Apple have the low-end market? It's a big market.
So, that was my disconnect with the ad. The strangest thing I saw in Toys R Us wasn't the Ipod stuff. It was the GPS devices. If you ever argued with yourself about whether a GPS device was a practical, time-saving device or an expensive toy, the latter argument gets a boost from their presence in Toys R Us.
So, yeah, Toys R Us has big, expensive grown-up toys, too. I wonder how they're doing with that.
